Now, before you roll your eyes and think, “Oh no, not another buzzword,” hear me out. Mindfulness isn’t about sitting cross-legged on a mountaintop (unless you’re into that). It’s about being present in your everyday moments, reducing stress, and making choices that align with the life you truly want.

Why Mindfulness Matters

If being a woman, especially a mom who is juggling her life, her kids life (and let’s face it, sometimes our spouse’s or parents’ lives too), add in getting older, which can be a whirlwind with balancing everything — work, family, relationships, schedules, and whatever else is thrown at us. Add to that the changes happening in your own body, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Mindfulness can help you navigate this phase with grace and joy by:

  • Reducing stress: Studies show mindfulness lowers cortisol levels, which means less stress and more peace.
  • Improving focus: Stay present and get things done with clarity.
  • Enhancing emotional health: Feel more balanced and less reactive.

Getting Started with Mindfulness

(Don’t worry if your mind wanders off, that’s normal. Bring it back to your breath. It will take a few tries but it does get easier, I promise.)
  2. Practice Gratitude Before bed, jot down three things you’re grateful for. It shifts your mindset to positivity. (It really does help you fall asleep with a smile on your face.)
  3. Mindful Movement Whether it’s yoga, a brisk walk, or dancing in your kitchen, move your body with intention. Feel the stretch, the rhythm, the joy.
  4. Tune Into Your Meals Eat without distractions. Savor each bite. Notice flavors, textures, and how your body feels. It’s a game-changer for digestion and satisfaction.
  5. Unplug Regularly Set aside 30 minutes a day to step away from screens. Use that time to read, journal, or simply sit in silence. Try this closer to bedtime. When you can focus on your breathing and put away the screens, it is a signal to your brain that it is time to relax. That blue light from whatever screen you have in front of you (television, phone, laptop, whatever) can trigger your mind into thinking it is still daylight, making it harder to fall asleep.
