One Good Deed a Day Will Improve Your Life

Feb 16, 2023 | Being Kind to Yourself

One good deed a day and your life will be better. Which help lead to a better sense of self and a healthier you. Most importantly, it helps show others a little bit of kindness, which may just be what…

My mom always said to do one good deed a day, and your life will be better.

Which is one of the premises behind Just Be Kind Health Coaching. When you can be kind to yourself, your body and your mind will lead you to feeling better about yourself. When you feel better about yourself, things start becoming more clear, you have more focus, life might feel a little lighter and happier.

Let’s keep that going. Doing one good deed every day can be a simple yet powerful way to make a positive impact on the world around us. From small acts of kindness to more substantial efforts, doing one good deed each day can create a ripple effect that can help make the world a better place.

I know it sounds simple. Some of us don’t hesitate or even think about it. Doing something kind is just second nature.

If you aren’t thinking about it and need some real reasons why doing one good deed every day can be so important:

  1. It spreads positivity: Doing something kind for someone else can make their day, and it can also improve your own mood. When we do something nice for others, it can create a chain reaction of positivity that spreads to those around us. When was the last time you did something for someone, and your mood started to improve, your smile got a little bigger!
  2. It promotes empathy and compassion: When we make a habit of doing good deeds, we become more attuned to the needs of others. This can help us develop empathy and compassion for those who are less fortunate or going through a difficult time. There are times when I see my two boys doing something for someone and it makes my mamma heart happy – they don’t know how much they are impacting the world.
  3. It builds community: Helping others can bring people together and create a sense of community. When we work together to make a difference, we can achieve more than we could alone.
  4. It sets an example: When we do good deeds, we set an example for others to follow. By demonstrating kindness and generosity, we can inspire others to do the same. Like I said in point #2, when I see my boys doing holding a door for someone or carrying a heavy bag for another, I know that my words and actions have made an impact on their hearts.

So, what kind of good deeds can you do each day? Here are some ideas:

  1. Help someone in need: If you see someone struggling with a heavy load, offer to help them carry it. If you know someone who is going through a tough time, reach out to them and offer your support. Don’t just ask “what do you need,” do something that they won’t ask for. That will go further than just words.
  2. Volunteer your time: There are countless organizations and causes that could use your help. Find one that speaks to you and volunteer your time to help make a difference. Doesn’t have to be a human volunteering, if animals are more your speed, spend time assisting at your local shelter.
  3. Be kind to strangers: Small acts of kindness can go a long way. Hold the door open for someone, pay for someone’s coffee or meal, or simply smile and say hello to someone you pass on the street. You never know what someone is going through. Something simple as complimenting what someone is wearing can mean the world to them.
  4. Practice gratitude: One good deed you can do each day is to express gratitude to someone who has made a positive impact on your life. Write a thank-you note, send a text message, or simply say thank you in person. Don’t forget to continue your Gratitude Journal for yourself – expressing gratitude for what you do is important for self-care and self-esteem. Your mood will be elevated too.
  5. Take care of the environment: Doing good deeds doesn’t just have to be about helping people. You can also make a positive impact on the environment by picking up litter, recycling, or using public transportation instead of driving. My favorites – recycling, buying local, using
  6.  canvas bags when going to the grocery store, composting, having an amazing garden to brighten my spring through fall yard.

Just know that doing one good deed each day doesn’t have to be a big or complicated task. It’s often the small, simple acts of kindness that can make the biggest difference. By making a habit of doing good deeds, you can help create a more positive, compassionate, and connected world.
